(KNSI) – When spotlighting seniors from the area, broadcasters and journalists may get to witness extraordinary physical feats by exemplary students.

The above statement is most definitely true when talking about this week’s Senior Spotlight, Kate Faber.

Faber is great on the volleyball court in the fall and was a five-year letter-winner in golf but what makes her accomplishments so great is the fact that she is a type-1 diabetic.

During the “Saturday Sports Special” this past weekend, Faber talked about her challenges and what type of golf coach her dad, Ted Faber is.

Just competing in multiple sports can be tough enough but being able to compete while dealing with a medical condition like diabetes has to make things tougher.

Although Faber had to miss a few volleyball games throughout the season due to battling diabetes, the senior captain still compiled 197 digs and 112 kills.

Faber’s average of 98 was good enough to make her Rocori’s number-two golfer.

Competition doesn’t slow Faber down in the classroom either as she compiled a 4.29 GPA and she was a member of the National Honor Society.

That wasn’t enough extracurricular activities for Faber either as she also was involved in REACH and a mission trip through her church.

When Faber isn’t competing or participating in school and church activities, she also likes to fish and hang out with her family and friends.

Just by being able to follow the high school careers of athletes like Kate has been a blessing for the area and for that, Leighton Broadcasting and KNSI would like to thank every one of them.
